Rod Penetrates Worker’s Brain in Manchester Construction Accident

03/19/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Manchester, NH — An accident at a home that is under construction at the Highlands Homes house development on Checkerberry Way, left a 19-year-old construction worker dead on Monday, March 19, 2012, reports WMUR.com.

Manchester fire officials reported that Tyler Walsh was right below a window and was looking up when a metal bracket fell from either a window, or a ladder. The threaded rod was over a foot long and a half-inch in diameter, WMUR reported.

When the rod fell, it embedded itself in Walsh’s forehead, over his right eye and about an inch into his head.

Responding emergency crews brought in a welder to cut off the rod, so an ambulance could transport Walsh to Elliot Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors determined that the rod had penetrated Walsh’s right frontal lobe of his brain.

Walsh was not conscious at the construction site, or while en route to the hospital.

The bracket and rod reportedly belong to another subcontractor who was working on the roof.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the death, along with Manchester police.
