West Virginia Coal Miner Killed in Accident at Kingston Mine

03/12/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Bristol, VA — A mining accident killed a coal miner in southern West Virginia on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Kingston No. 2 Mine near Scarbro, reported the State Journal.

Jeremy Sigler, 34, of Pool, W. Va., was killed after a rib rolled at the mine.

Rib rolling is when the ribs of the mine, or side walls, crack and fall into the mine. This is reportedly a fairly common occurrence in coal mining, but they don’t always result in a fatal or injurious accident.

Co-workers reportedly tried to resuscitate Sigler, but their rescue attempts were not successful.

“In this sad time our prayers and heartfelt condolences go to Mr. Sigler’s family,” said Charlie Bearse, president of Kingston Mining to the State Journal. “While the mine is idled we will work closely with the outside investigators to determine how and why the accident occurred. We are administering to his family’s needs and providing counseling to his fellow miners at this time to help them deal with the loss of their coworker.”

The Mine Safety and Health Administration are investigating the fatal work-related accident.
