New York – A man has been arrested for the death of six-year-old Etan Patz, who disappeared 33 years ago. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Pedro Hernandez, 51 of New Jersey, purportedly confessed to killing Patz more than three decades ago, stating he took the child to his store and committed the act a short distance from Patz’s family’s home in Manhattan.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly is quoted by the AP as stating of Hernandez’s confession, “He was remorseful, and I think the detectives thought that it was a feeling of relief on his part… We believe that this is the individual responsible for the crime.”
Patz’s body has never been found.
