Delray Beach, Florida has a new and somewhat curious man to show them where and what to eat. Known in many circles as the “Duke of Dining” and the “Sultan of Suppertime,” the mysterious diner simply goes by “Unknown,” and can only be seen on The Food Beat.com.
“This guy is a real enigma, but he knows his stuff and his pallet is legendary” said The Food Beat CFO, Chris Glatz. “When we decided to produce a show that provided viewers with an in-depth look at Delray Beach restaurants, Unknown was our first and only call.”
The process of locating the finicky critic was no easy chore.
“It was a real challenge…this guy was not easy to find” said Food Beat President Joe Stout. “Location…unknown. Phone number…unlisted. Last city of residence… unknown. It was crazy but we knew the effort would pay big dividends for the show and The Food Beat. We finally found him in Paris and talked him into coming to south Florida.”
The show, which was originally tabbed to be called, “Delray Dining Review” was changed to “The Unknown Diner” due to the contractual demands of Unknown. The virtual recluse who so values his identity remain unknown, dons a Mexican Luchador mask when in public. And the cryptic castigator never speaks a word in fear that his voice may identify him.
“Unknown’s eccentricities make for a complex production, but when it’s all said and done, he always delivers and our viewers are equally intrigued and disturbed” said Glatz.
The five to 10 minute web series primary objective is to provide an “insiders” look at Delray Beach restaurants, bakeries, and caterer’s. The Food Beat crew interviews owners, management, staff, and customers, and takes the viewer into the kitchen to witness the preparation of the featured dish. The show highlights featured menu items, special offerings and services, and most importantly, the people that make the business so unique.
The current episode features Da Da, a long time favorite of Food Beat VP of Sales, Bob Geller.
“We all love Da Da and thought it would be a great way to kick off the series. It’s also a perfect example of the fun stuff you discover along the way as we found how the name Da Da came about and why it was chosen. We also found out that Da Da has some very spirited patrons who never want to leave.”
At the conclusion of each show, The Unknown Diner arrives (and always in a different mode of transportation) to sample the chosen fare. His review is direct and conclusive as the establishment either receives the “Fork Up,” or the “Fork Down” signal. The favorable “Fork Up” reviews are rewarded with a “Fork Up” certificate to show patrons the restaurants lofty accomplishment.
The Unknown Diner is the typical Food Beat program; it’s fun, it’s different, and provides a unique, in-depth look at the places that make Delray Beach so special.
New episodes are in the works, and any Delray Beach entity that serves food or desserts that would like to be considered should contact Bob Geller at 561-962-3136 X-2.
