New billiards league will host qualifying event in Columbus, Ohio on September 28, 2012.
Midwest Billiards and Pool League Inc. (MBPL) is hosting a pro qualifying event in Columbus on September 28, 2012. Prize money for this tournament will total $350,000 Prize Money. Mini-Tournaments will start on September 24, 2012.
“Our aim is to establish a competitive pool and billiards league with high-quality, well-organized tournaments and big cash prizes that will attract players from around the world for Pool Competition,” says founder Lonnie Meyer. “Our motto is Real Tournaments, Big Cash Pots and Bigger Fun.”
Participants in the inaugural tournament will also be filmed throughout the activities, for a Reality Show based on the players in the Inaugural event. MBPL will rank players based on qualifier tournaments. The main event, a 9-ball qualifier – to be held September 28, 2012 – will give the winner $150,000, the highest payout for first-place finish in any tournament to date. The top 20 competitors will all win cash prizes.
Joining MBPL costs $500 a year, allowing entry in up to 15 tournaments; there is an additional cost to enter each tournament. The entry fee for the 9-ball qualifier will be $3,500 and the deadline for entry to this tournament is August 24, 2012.
There will be online registration for the main qualifier in Columbus on September 28. Registration for this tournament will be held online through Amazon Payments (the direct payment arm of Amazon.com) and there will be a limited number of entries. Online registration will also be available for the mini tournaments held during the week; players must be members of MBPL to register for these tournaments. The deadline is August 30, 2012.
“If poker tournaments can demand entry fees of thousands of dollars, then MBPL can do the same,” says Meyer. “It’s time to turn the industry upside-down.”
Tournaments are planned in a number of major U.S. cities, including: Columbus (three tournaments), Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Las Vegas, Miami, Memphis, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston and New Orleans for our Pro Billiards Travel League. Chicago will play host to the end-of-year event in May 2013.
