/EINPresswire.com/ Jewelry designer Angie Howard will display her one-of-a-kind, hand-cut stone and wire-wrapped pendants at the 2012 GBK Primetime Emmys Gifting Suite in Hollywood, California on September 20-22. Beautiful Ohio Flint is the focal point of Howard’s Primetime Emmys design.
In association with California-based The Artisan Group, lapidary artist and jewelry designer Angie Howard, owner of Angie’s Jewelry Design in Orlando, Florida (http://www.angiesjewelrydesign.com), will display and gift her one-of-a-kind, hand-cut stone and wire-wrapped Ohio Flint pendants at the 2012 GBK Primetime Emmys Gifting Suite, which will take place in Hollywood, California on September 20-22.
Howard chose to create Ohio Flint pendants for the Primetime Emmys gifting for several reasons. First, it is the official state gemstone of her home state of Ohio. Also, it is well suited to a highly polished finish and has enough character to make each pendant a little different from the next. Finally, Howard notes, “Ohio Flint is a stone that is dependable under the saw and that is really important when you need to cut a hundred individual cabochons.” Howard also finds the history of the stone intriguing. In historic times, Native Americans in the area used the stone to make tools and traded it with populations across the continent. Archaeologists have discovered artifacts made from Ohio Flint as far west as the Rocky Mountains and south to the Gulf of Mexico.
Howard obtained the Ohio flint for her Primetime Emmys pendants on a recent trip to Ohio, where she visited with renowned flint knapper Roy Miller. Miller owns one of the few Ohio Flint quarries in the state and is known for creating beautiful lithic art points using ancient knapping techniques. “The 3-1/2 hour drive across the state was well worth it,” commented Howard. “Not only did I get to see the beautiful rolling hills of the Amish countryside and Mr. Miller’s exquisite work, but he was kind enough to take me on a tour of his workshop. It was an awesome experience.”
Jordin Sparks, Tyra Banks and Amy Poehler have also been on the receiving end of Howard’s artistry, having been gifted pendants made from hand-cut and wire-wrapped Purple Sugalite, Ohio Flint and Tube Agate, respectively. Howard also recently participated in GBK’s 2012 MTV Movie Awards Luxury Gift Lounge.
Howard’s one-of-a-kind jewelry is bold and elegant. Howard’s deft use of natural stones, which she cuts and wire wraps by hand, distinguishes her pieces. “I rarely see an artist who does what I do,” remarked Howard. “Cutting stones is time-consuming and not for the faint of heart. Even though I study the stone carefully before beginning the cutting process, it can still break. Or a new pattern may suggest itself, which can mean starting over with a different design concept.”

About Angie Howard and Angie’s Jewelry Design
Angie Howard is the owner of Angie’s Jewelry Design (http://www.angiesjewelerydesign.com), established in 2007. She is a self-taught jeweler who participates in invitational juried art festivals in Florida and the surrounding states. In addition, she sells her jewelry on her website.
Howard began studying jewelry making and lapidary after visits to Hong Kong exposed her to the jade markets and a variety of beautiful jewelry where stones were the focal point. Her passion only increased with trips to China and Tibet, where she was able to add unusual specimens to her collection, including agates from near Mt. Everest and white jade acquired in Nanjing.
Howard works out of her home studio/workshop, surrounded by lots and lots of rocks. Her arsenal of equipment goes far beyond the typical jeweler’s band saw and torch to include a 10″ round diamond slab saw, a 6″ round water-cooled diamond saw and a cabbing machine with 6, 1-1/2″ diamond wheels.
Prior to establishing herself as a full-time jeweler, Howard led live entertainment production teams at a large theme park organization in Central Florida, where she produced everything from stage shows to fireworks spectaculars. Her other passion is theatre. She was active in theatre for many years and has a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Theatre Management from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Howard is a member of the Central Florida Gem and Mineral Society and The Artisan Group, an exclusive celebrity gifting group that she became involved with through a word of mouth referral.
