Short term payday loan company Payday Express recently held a ‘Be Charitable’ month within its company to boost awareness for local charities.
The month included a wide range of fundraising and awareness efforts, with everything from competitions to dress down days held in an effort to get staff members more involved with charity work.
In order to encourage staff at take part in the charity experience, the instant loans company organised a ‘Charitable Challenge’ in which staff could win prizes for their efforts. Those competing were asked to raise money and volunteer for their chosen charity as part of a team, for which points could be accrued. For every £1 that the teams raised they were awarded with one point, while a full team day of volunteering equalled 300 points. The challenge ended on 1st August 2012, with the prize being a team day out.
The winning team gave themselves the name ‘The Inbetweeners Team’ and including members from a number of different departments within Payday Express, such as Quality Management and Compliance.
These members of staff fundraised and volunteered in their own time for their charity, Foal Farm in Biggin Hill, Kent. This charity takes in animals to nurse them back to health and give them a good quality of life, and The Inbetweeners Team helped to raise money for them by manning stalls during a Foal Farm Fun Day. This included looking after stalls such as the coconut shy, tombola and roll-a-penny, along with a bouncy castle.
For their efforts The Inbetweeners Team were allowed to choose from five prizes – tickets to Thorpe Park, a visit to a Comedy Club plus a three course meal, a day out at the London Dungeons plus a Pizza Express meal, dinner at one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants, or a paintballing Experience. The team chose to visit the Comedy Club and enjoy a three course dinner.
During the ‘Be Charitable’ month, Payday Express also created a ‘Be Board’ in the staff kitchen of the office, which contained information for a variety of local charities and how staff could aid them. The company also holds a dress down Friday each week, with each member of staff paying £1 to take part. This money is then given as a donation to that month’s chosen charity – for July it was decided that the charity be Foal Farm.
Richard Turner, Human Resource Manager, said: “Express Finance recognises the importance of raising awareness of charities in need of support. By creating a staff incentive this not only generates awareness, but also helps with team building within each department. It is an opportunity for staff to involve themselves while at the same time interacting and contributing towards the community.”
Lauren Johnson, Contact Centre Agent, said: “The ‘Be Charitable’ month has been a great success and has helped to strengthen the team while also aiding a fantastic cause.”
