Lightwater Valley has launched a new pirate-themed series of weekend events running throughout “Swashbuckling September” 2012.
Eager children, families and adults alike will find a treasure trove of fun events to get involved in. Visitors can learn pirate language and take part in fighting lessons, pirate-style; listen to tales of seafaring adventures; win chests full of prizes in a valley-wide treasure hunt and even watch a pirate-themed show. Lightwater Valley is also running competitions for the best-dressed pirate, so visitors are encouraged to come dressed for the occasion in their finest pirate rags.
The events will mostly take place in the theme park’s Skeleton Cove area. This section houses a number of pirate-themed rides, including The Black Pearl – an 85ft tall ride which spins its crew around 360 degrees in a rotating pirate ship and offers spectacular views across the park, and the Pirate Swinger – a carousel ride perfect for younger pirate enthusiasts.
Mr. Ashley Young, Marketing Manager at Lightwater Valley, said: “We are thrilled to offer visitors such a variety of exciting events in Skeleton Cove this September. From learning to speak ‘Pirate’ to searching for buried treasure, there’s something for every budding buccaneer and family member, young or old.
“It’s now been a year since Skeleton Cove first opened to the public, and what better way to celebrate than with a veritable festival of pirate-themed events. In particular we’re hoping for an enthusiastic response to our fancy-dress competition. You might even spot Lightwater Valley staff getting into the spirit of things with an eye-patch and a beard!”
Lightwater Valley Theme Park in Ripon, North Yorkshire is home to over 40 rides and attractions. After developing from a self-picking strawberry farm, rides were introduced in 1987, transforming it into a modern day theme park. Some of the key attractions include ‘The Ultimate’ – which is the longest rollercoaster in Europe – and Skeleton Cove, the recently introduced pirate-themed section that includes Skull Rock, Pirate Swings, Powder Kegs, Flying Cutlass and Black Pearl rides, all giving value for money on theme park tickets.
