/EINPresswire.com/ ROSEVILLE CA – September 4, 2012 — Paradise Laundry opens another eco-friendly Laundromat in Roseville CA, and this location is a darker shade of green. Paradise Laundry Inc. has taken a bold step with the opening of their newest location at 500 Cirby Way in Roseville; they decided to not install any top load washers during the renovation of an old run-down coin laundry.
For over 20 years, it was known as the ‘Laundry Basket’ with a total of 23 washers; 17 of which were the top loading kind. Now it has only 14 washers all of which are the front loading kind.
Deborah Dower, owner of Paradise Laundry Inc. explains the reason for going ‘top-less’; “An older top loading washer can use up to 42 gallons of water to wash one load which is more than twice as much water of a high efficiency (HE) front load washer.” In making the switch Paradise Laundry was able to increase the store’s wash capacity 150% using 40% less water in the process.
Deborah went on to say, “When we remodeled our first Roseville location at 105 Ascot Drive we eliminated 10 top loads washers taking it from 22 down to 12, with the intention to further reduce the number to only 6 top loads. We thought people would stop using the older style machines when they realized how much better the HE washers worked then we would replace the tops with higher efficiency front loads. Unfortunately, that has not been the case; much to our surprise there are times each week when all 12 of the top load washers are busy.”
In California, many cities have been hit with double digit rate increases for water and sewer due to the need to replace the aging infrastructure of underground pipes. Deborah shared the rational; “Recognizing water and sewer rates are going to continue to increase we decided at this new location we would not even offer top load washers. Instead, we would put in double capacity front load washers and priced them the same as a top load. My worst fear is for someone to come in take a look, see we don’t have any top load machines then turn around and walk out. We are hopeful the equivalent pricing will give them incentive to try the high efficiency washers”.
In discussing their company’s mission Deborah said, “Since the opening of our first location in Citrus Heights our mantra has been, “Wash Green – Save Green TM”, we strive to educate our customers about the ecological benefits to our planet when they use the HE front loading washer. We also encourage customers to select cold water which doesn’t require natural gas to heat the water so we passed the savings on to them with our Eco Wash TM pricing.” Jim Dower, husband and co-owner provides detail, “The $8.50 price for an Eco Wash TM on our 90 lb Dexter Express front load washer may shock some, however it holds 9 loads of clothes which averages less than a $1.00 per load. Apartment laundries charge $1.50 per load regardless of water temperature which means nine individual loads cost $13.50 and use approximately 300 gallons of water. Our 90lb front loader uses only 83 gallons to wash the same amount of clothing and because it uses less water it requires less soap, which saves our customers even more money.”
Paradise Laundry Inc. has been certified by the BUSINESS ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE CENTER (BERC) as part of the Sacramento Sustainable Area Business program, in four out of six sustainability categories; Water Conservation, Energy Conservation, Pollution Prevention and Solid Waste Reduction.
On August 21st Paradise Laundry Inc. was recognized by the Sacramento Board of Supervisors as ‘Sustainable Business of the Year’ in small business Water Conservation category.
A grand opening celebration of Paradise Laundry’s newest location will take place on Wednesday September 19st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Paradise Laundry is located at 500 Cirby Way suite B at the intersection of Melody Lane next to 7-Eleven.
