The visual syntax of Angel Orensanz reflects both an art vocabulary and the role of sculptures. Sculpture being performance based, a conceptual challenge and visual wonder. Angel Orensanz has been working on both fronts of sculpture for the last couple of decades.
Angel Orensanz’s used a similar title for the first time in “Burning Universe”; an exhibition that once filled the Palazzo Malipiero, which today displays the Pinault collection, in the heart of Venice. Orensanz performance filled the palazzo and spilled over the Grand Canal pushing his inflatables over the waters, challenging the ships and the chopping waves. “Burning Universe”, reflected both the atmosphere surrounding the Grand Canal and a series of video pieces projected from the rooms inside and over the waters of Venice. Around the same time, Angel Orensanz and a group of German art critics composed a manifesto which was read after a march that took place in Piazza San Marco in front of Palazzo Della Signoria.
Today Angel Orensanz has transitioned his vision and performances abroad to an art gallery space here in New York City. The exhibition includes bronzes, drawings and paintings that reference Angel’s vision of public arts interaction with nature.
These never before shown bronzes are condensed reliquaries of experiences both personal, and of the contemporary landscape that are a fundamental part of Angel’s artistic vision.
