Olympic and Paralympic fever may be some way from dying off, but now that the lights in the Olympic stadium have gone out, Edenred, specialist in tailor-made employee development and incentive programmes, believes a number of important lessons can be taken away, which can help encourage people to scale their own Olympian heights of performance.

It has published a White Paper in which it lays out seven key lessons which leaders and managers can take from the inspirational lead given to the whole of the UK by the performances and spirit shown by competitors in both of these huge events.

These seven lessons are:

– How targets can be used to motivate and measure people’s success

– The benefits which fostering a ‘home advantage’ and collective culture can bring

– The many different forms which mentoring can take, and from where inspiration can be drawn

– How the small changes which can lead to success can be identified and implemented

– How people can be motivated to adopt a competitive mentality and have the right goals to aim towards

– The need to focus on spotting both those who are winning members of a team, and those who are holding it back, and

– The importance of stepping back and taking an overall view when planning for long-term success.

Andy Philpott, Sales & Marketing Director at Edenred said: “There were many lessons which businesses could take from the achievements of our athletes this summer, so in our two new White Papers, we set out to put their achievements into context, and show people in business how they can create a winning mindset, using the success of our Olympians and Paralympians as a blueprint.

“What was obvious from all the remarkable success stories we witnessed at the Games was that real success is earned through hours, days, months and years of single-minded preparation.

“We can’t possibly claim to have discovered any secrets to that success, but in our two new White Papers, we show how a successful team can be built, and how businesses can put some facets of the winning Olympic mindset into practice to achieve success quickly, as they approach the vital Christmas trading period.”

The two white papers, ‘Lessons from Team GB and the London Olympics’, and ‘Making your Christmas Reward and Incentives Count’, can both be downloaded free from Edenred’s new business performance management website, www.2012performance.co.uk.
