Brentwood, NY — A worker was killed at a Long Island carnival on Saturday, September 1, 2012, when he was apparently trying to take care of something related to the carnival ride’s music, reported Fox News.
According to reports, Michael Austin, 22, ducked under the Scat ride, which is a spinning amusement ride, during the Feast of Mother Cabrini festival in Brentwood. When Austin stood up, one of the rotating arms of the ride apparently hit and knocked him to the ground.
Responding emergency crews rushed Austin to an area hospital, where his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
According to safety procedures, operators should wait until a ride is stopped before stepping by it.
None of the 16 people on the Scat ride at the time of the accident were injured.
The New York State Department of Labor is investigating the deadly work-related accident. They have also examined the 1972 ride after the accident and determined it was working properly.
