The Lao Freedom Council has acknowledged the Declaration on Criteria for Free and Fair Elections which endorses the fundamental principles of a periodic free and fair elections in relation to universal and regional human rights. This includes the right for all to take part in the Lao Legitimate Opposition Party of his or her country directly or indirectly through freely chosen representatives, to vote in such elections by secret ballot, to have an equal opportunity to become a candidate for election and to put forward his or her political views, individually or in association with others.
In conformity with the United Nations Charter, the Lao Political Organization Abroad although has sovereign right in accordance with the will of its people, freely to choose and develop its own political, social, economic and cultural systems does not encounter any interference by the Lao Freedom Council.
In adopting the Charter of the United Nations, a free and fair election is the first step in raising awareness on an international level. By electing the Lao Legitimate Opposition Party to act as the representative of those Laotian people worldwide whom wish to support ‘Laos National Reconciliation’, the party will be monitored by the International community.
The former representative for Laos, Chu Cha, acted as the Chairman of the Free and Fair Election. At the Quebec Convention in Canada, there were 14 Lao Organizations that were present to support the Lao Freedom Council and to nominate the candidates for the Free and Fair Elections that was carried out at the convention in Canada dated 1 September 2012..
Dr William K. Bouaroy was elected as the leader of the Legitimate Opposition Party. Mrs Elizabeth (Norkham) Souvannavong, the former Laos Representative before 1975, is the First Deputy. Mr Lao Chu Cha, the former Laos Representative before 1975, as Second Deputy.
The Lao Freedom Council will continue to support the Lao Legitimate Opposition Party to oppose the Laos regime and to raise awareness of the current problems in Laos to the international community and the United Nations, which comprises of corruption, human rights violations, massacred killings, natural disasters, human trafficking, drugs, poverty, sexual trades, violation of international laws.
