/EINPresswire.com/ EDISON, NEW JERSEY AND NEW YORK- While a breast augmentation produces excellent results for women, there are certain considerations they must take into account before undergoing the procedure.
To ensure a woman is fully prepared for their operation Dr. Shain Cuber, a NJ plastic surgeon , has put together a list of common questions and answers to help them recover as comfortably as possible.
Can I exercise?
Exercise should be avoided for a minimum of three weeks following surgery. After that, patients can slowly resume their normal routines with caution during exercises that involve the chest muscles.
Is smoking allowed?
For the tissues to heal properly, they need a healthy blood supply carried by oxygen. Smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict, which reduces the blood supply and oxygen to the surgical area. For this reason, most surgeons recommend patients cease smoking five weeks before surgery and may resume two weeks following.
Is taking off work necessary?
Most surgeons recommend patients take a few days off after the procedure, says Cuber of New York plastic surgeons . How much time, varies from patient to patient. If their job does not involve heavy lifting, one week off should suffice. Strenuous activities should be avoided for the first few weeks, so be talk to the surgeon about the demands of the workplace to ensure an appropriate amount of time is requested off.
Is driving allowed?
The patient is usually OK to drive one week after surgery, but only if they are off all pain medications.
Is a sitter necessary?
It is advised that patients with small children arrange for someone to help them care for them for the first week.
“Patients who follow their surgeon’s pre and post operative instructions generally have a more comfortable recovery,” said Cuber, who also offers breast lift and tummy tuck procedures. “It’s important to keep in mind that the patient did just undergo surgery and the body needs to heal. Take it easy and don’t be afraid to call the surgeon for questions.”
