Houston, Texas – The State Bar of Texas has filed a lawsuit against a former prosecutor and current state district attorney in connection with the case of a man wrongfully convicted of murder. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Ken Anderson, who served as prosecutor in the 1987 conviction of Michael Morton, has been accused of withholding evidence linked to the case in which Morton received a life sentence.
Morton served almost 25 years in prison before being cleared by DNA evidence and released.
The lawsuit contends, as quoted by the AP, “Before, during and after the 1987 trial, (Anderson) knew of the existence of several pieces of evidence and withheld same from defense counsel.”
Anderson reportedly has until Nov. 5 to respond to the lawsuit.
