/EINPresswire.com/One Los Angeles dentist is fighting back with low-cost dental exams and a Halloween candy buyback program. The events is being put on to help raise awareness and keep parents focused on their children’s teeth and gums.
Los Angeles dentist, South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics currently have two reasons to celebrate – Halloween and National Dental Hygiene Month. While these are exciting reasons to celebrate, they are contradictory. Nevertheless, the dentists at South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics are taking advantage of this time of year by offering $38 exams for children after Halloween. Meanwhile, they are helping parents manage their Halloween candy supplies by buying back portions of unused and unwrapped candy at $1 per pound. The uneaten candy is then donated to needy families and overseas troops – groups that would otherwise not get to enjoy the sweet goodness of Halloween.
It’s no shock that October is the month that dentists have decided to create and celebrate month-long awareness of dental health. “October is a powerful month for tooth decay,” said a dentist from South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics. “The only time children eat more sugar than now is during the Holiday season. That’s why it’s more important than ever to get kids to see their local dentist at this time. So we’re doing our part to raise awareness.”
The $38 dental exam promotion begins November 1st, following Halloween. The promotion includes a physical exam by a dentist, teeth cleaning, and whitening. These post-Halloween exams allow the dentists at South Bay an opportunity to exam decay and catch any troubles early on. Of course, a single exam is no substitute for regular dental visits. “Children should see their dentist at least every six months,” said a dentist from South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics.
Meanwhile, being able to monitor a child’s candy consumption on Halloween is considered vital to most parents. Through the Halloween candy buyback program, parents are able to give back the excess candy kids get on Halloween in addition to having something to do with leftover candy the trick-or-treaters don’t get. 2012 marks South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics’ second Halloween candy buyback program and they hope to be able to make it an annual National Dental Hygiene Month tradition.
“We consider this a great way to spread the word about National Dental Hygiene Month,” said another dentist from South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics. “Parents ultimately are helping their kids get healthier by participating in these programs. And what parent doesn’t want a healthier, happier child?”
