New York City – Some New Yorkers affected by Super Storm Sandy have decided to leave the city amid frustrations over prolonged power outages and devastation. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), tempers flared near the week’s end, days after the storm ravaged the city, as thousands of residents remain in the dark.
As crews worked to restore power and provide basic supplies to those in need, a carpooling rule was enforced in an effort to aid in relieving traffic congestion, but major traffic jams still added to mounting frustrations from those seeking to find shelter outside of the affected area.
Jordan Spiro, who lives in a zone where power has not yet been restored, is quoted by the AP as stating, “You can clearly tell at the office, or even walking down the street, who has power and who doesn’t…New Yorkers may not be known as the friendliest bunch, but take away their ability to shower and communicate and you’ll see how disgruntled they can get.”
