Father Christmas will be in need of a little exercise if he wants to burn off the 48.2 billion calories that he’ll pile on after enjoying milk and mince pies at all the homes he visits this year, according to an infographic from Parcel2Go.
The Bolton-based parcel delivery specialist knows all about how much effort goes on behind the scenes when it comes to delivering packages around the world, but the team thought they’d dust down the office calculator to discover exactly what Father Christmas and his reindeers have to go through to get every child’s presents delivered on time each year.
They have discovered that if every household leaves out a drink of milk and a mince pie on Christmas Eve, St Nick will have to get through 33 million litres of the white stuff – equivalent to the annual milk production of about 3,479 dairy cows. Add on to that a serious stack of mince pies and he’ll have consumed more than 48 billion calories by the end of the night.
But with 175 million miles to cover (the equivalent of a round trip to the sun) and 132 million stops to make, Santa should get enough exercise to ensure he stays just trim enough to fit down chimneys.
After uncovering just how much work Father Christmas has in front of him this year, Parcel2Go has called on people to lend him a helping hand and, if possible, organise their Christmas parcel deliveries well before December 25.
Richard Mercer, marketing director at Parcel2Go, said: “We’re involved in helping businesses and individuals ship about two million parcels every year, but that figure clearly pales into insignificance when you consider the 132 million deliveries that Santa has to make in just a few hours.
“We were also fascinated to discover just how many calories he gets through on Christmas Eve. Our parcel couriers would certainly agree that running around making deliveries helps them to build up an appetite, but it’s no surprise Father Christmas needs a big black belt!”
