Every year there are certain books everyone is clamouring to read and online retailer the Book People has revealed which were the most popular publications among readers for Christmas 2012.

Comedienne Miranda Hart shot from little-known TV actress to fully fledged star with the launch of her BBC sitcom Miranda, which she writes and stars in. Her book Is it Just Me? is a hilarious treat for fans of the show and it offers her tips on how to deal with the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Hilarious and riveting, this book is packed with humorous gems from start to finish.

Two of the biggest films to be released over the past couple of months have been The Life of Pi and The Hobbit. Both of these are adaptations from novels and, as expected, the publications flew off the shelves over the Christmas period. While The Hobbit is the prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s masterpiece The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Life of Pi is written by Yann Martel and tells the story of a 16-year-old boy who survives a boat crash with an extraordinary group of animals.

One of the most prestigious awards for novelists is the Man Booker Prize and this year, the shortlisted publications – which included Umbrella by Will Self and Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel – proved popular among the Book People’s customers.

Lindsay Eyers, social media manager at the Book People, said: “Lots of people ask for new books as a Christmas present and we found these publications were some of our most popular over the festive season.

“It’s great to see that so many people were inspired to read after hearing about or seeing the big screen adaptations of these novels and we hope this will encourage them to read more books by the same authors – perhaps The Lord of the Rings trilogy could be next on the list for Hobbit fans!”

The Book People is a specialist online retailer selling everything from novels and biographies, to cookery books, military history publications and books for children. What is more, all titles are available at fantastic low prices customers will love.
