Washington – President Barack Obama recently appeared at a rally seeking to generate support for his proposals on immigration reform. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama also hailed a separate bipartisan effort by Senators whose propositions were stated to be similar to his plans.
Obama is quoted by the AP as stating, “The good news is that, for the first time in many years, Republicans and Democrats seem ready to tackle this problem together… It looks like there’s a genuine desire to get this done soon. And that’s very encouraging.”
Obama outlined recommendations for reform in 2011 but the plan had not previously been passed by Congress.
White House spokesman Jay Carney is further quoted as stating to reporters while en route to the Nevada rally Tuesday, “And what you’ll hear from the president today is how we need to take these initial positive steps and continue to move forward so that actual legislation is produced.”
