Union, New Jersey – A New Jersey 4-year-old was found living on sugar after he had been alone with his dead mother for days. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the young boy was found malnourished and without clothes on and his mother dead in her bedroom.
The child’s mother was identified as Kiana Workman, 38.
Officer Joseph Sauer is quoted by the AP as stating of finding the child, who was below normal weight at 26 pounds, in the apartment, “The only way to describe the little boy was it was like a scene from World War II, from a concentration camp, he was that skinny. I mean, you could see all his bones.”
Police Director Daniel Zieser is further quoted as stating of care for the boy, “We’re just going to take it one step at a time and do the best that we can for the child.”
Autopsy results for the mother were pending.
