/EINPresswire.com/ Petland Naperville has sponsored a therapy dog for the life of its service as part of Edward Hospital’s Animal Assisted Therapy Program. One of the most respected Naperville pet stores, Petland sells pets of all kinds, including puppies, in Naperville.
NAPERVILLE, IL – Petland Naperville is sponsoring a handler/dog team to take part in the Edward Hospital Animal Assisted Therapy Program. Therapy dog owner, Jeff Lapides and his black lab, Boo, will be sponsored by the pet store in Naperville for the life of their service in the therapy program.
“Edward Hospital’s Animal Assisted Therapy Program is a great tool to help hospital patients get better and we’re excited to sponsor a team. As a pet store owner, I completely believe in the benefits an animal can bring to a person’s life. To be able to help people who are seriously ill receive some of those benefits and maybe take their minds off of their medical issues for even a little while is an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. Jeff and Boo are a great team and I have no doubt they’ll be very popular with the patients at Edward Hospital,” noted Adam Stachowiak, Owner, Petland Naperville (http://www.petlandnaperville.com).
Animal assisted therapy utilizes the human-animal bond to bring comfort to patients and serves as a diversion from their illness. Visits have been proven to help reduce stress, anxiety, pain and blood pressure, which in turn can help the healing process. Patients are visited by a volunteer team of dog and its’ owner/handler. Visits are available every day of the week and are free of charge to patients, thanks in large part to the sponsorship of pet/owner teams from businesses and organizations in the community, including Naperville pet stores, like Petland. Sponsorship donations cover the cost of training, bi-annual lab testing for each dog and general program maintenance. As a lifetime sponsor, Petland Naperville will be featured on the Animal Assisted Therapy donor wall in the Edward Hospital Outpatient Lobby, underneath a picture of Jeff and Boo.
Edward Hospital’s animal-assisted therapy program is available to patients in many areas of the hospital, including pediatrics, outpatient oncology, coronary care, orthopedics-neurology, medical-surgical and short stay. Patients in these areas can request a visit as long as they meet certain criteria and have physician approval. Visits last approximately five to ten minutes and are available seven days a week, at various times. For more information about the program, visit: http://www.edward.org/AnimalAssistedTherapy.
