Rochelle, GA – A murder suspect shot a police officer insider of the police headquarters in Jackson on Thursday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, was found dead along with the officer when authorities were investigating the gunfire.
According to Police Chief Rebecca Coleman, the suspect was being questioned on the building’s third floor at the time of the incident. The officer shot was homicide detective Eric Smith.
City spokesman Chris Mims is quoted by the AP as stating of the investigation into the shooting, which will reportedly be taken over by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, “We’re asking for everybody’s patience, we will be releasing information as soon as we have it… This is an extraordinarily tragic situation.”
