/EINPresswire.com/ Local company shares garage sale tips, encourages Kansas City donations to benefit Ozanam and Sherwood Center
Kansas City, KS, May 6, 2013 — Kansas City’s KC Donation Pickup is gearing up for garage sale season with a fresh new website and updated garage sale kit. The popular kit, packed with valuable tools and tips, will once again be offered free to locals. As in previous years, residents can schedule a time for KC Donation Pickup to pick up leftover items to benefit local social development and family causes.
“From the moment you start gathering your items to the moment you close up and count your earnings, having a garage sale is a lot of work,” explains KC Donation Pickup Director Angella Garrison.
“But our free kit is designed to help people organize a great garage sale right from the beginning. And if they pre-schedule a pickup of their leftover items, they’ll be able to write off the donation on their taxes and help support two great charities. So we’re a partner to garage sale owners every step of the way.”
Additionally, those who pre-schedule their pickup will get a free listing of their sale on the kcdonationpickup.org calendar. This listing helps attract more garage sale shoppers because it includes details such as items for sale, the date and location.
The company is also jumping into the social media arena with an engaging online promotion. Residents are encouraged to ‘like’ the new KCDonationPickup.org page on Facebook and post a photo of the funniest or most unusual item they are selling at thier garage sale. Consider it a chance to show off that handmade shrunken head vase, hideous holiday sweater, or vintage Alf lunch box.
“We’ve been looking for a way to make a splash on Facebook, and we think this contest will be a great deal of fun to enter,” says Director Garrison. “There are a lot of interesting items that people find buried in their crawlspaces and sheds- so it’s a great to show them off. Plus there’s an added bonus to participating in this contest, in that it gives garage sale owners yet another way to advertise their sale.”
The contest runs from May 1 – October 1, 2013 and players can post as many photos as they would like, but will only be enterd to win once. If they schedule a post-sale pickup at kcdonationpickup.org, they will receive two additional entries. One winner will be drawn and announced on October 2, 2013 and will be awarded a $250 Lowes gift card. Go to https://www.facebook.com/KcDonationPickup to participate.
KC Donation Pickup (in partnership with MAJ-R Thrift) has been helping local children and families for over 30 years. Donations made via the garage sale pickup program benefit The Sherwood Center and Ozanam to help struggling families and individuals with autism.
KC Donation Pickup intends to expand on the success of its garage sale kit program, which distributed 1,000 packs last year. “We’re anticipating an even greater response this year, so we’re planning to produce even more kits,” Garrison added.
Garage sale owners can visit kcdonationpickup.org to sign up for their free garage sale kit, schedule a free pickup, get listed on the calendar, and learn more about the Sherwood Center and Ozanam charities.
