Bellefonte, Pa – The family of the late Pennsylvania State University coach, Joe Paterno, and others have filed a lawsuit over the sanctions imposed on the school amid the scandal involving Jerry Sandusky, who was convicted on multiple counts of child sex abuse last summer. As reported by the Associated Press (AP) the lawsuit against the NCAA is seeking to have the sanctions, which heavily punished the football program, removed.
Included on the list of sanctions imposed against the school last July are a $60 million fine and scholarship cuts.
Paul Kelly, an attorney representing plaintiffs in the case, is quoted by the AP as stating in a phone interview of the case, “I would say the overwhelming majority of the complaints and the facts really relate to … due process, and the fairness and actions of the NCAA… It’s much broader than (the Paterno family’s claims) and I hope people realize that.”
