San Francisco – A California veteran’s charity has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by the state in which it was accused of excessive spending. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Temecula-based Help Hospitalized Veterans charity agreed to pay a $2.45 million settlement after being accused of paying executives too much in addition to spending donated funds on items that served no benefit for helping veterans who were hospitalized.

In addition to the settlement, State Attorney General Kamala Harris, who filed the lawsuit last year in Riverside County, said that the charity’s current president, Michael Lynch, and four board members are stepping down and will not serve any other charity in an executive capacity.

Harris is quoted by the AP as stating, “Veterans face many challenges when they return home — it’s unconscionable that Help Hospitalized Veterans officials misused charitable money intended for those who served and have sacrificed for our country.”
