Washington – Two students were suspended from their high school after they wore Confederate flags to school. As reported by KIROTV, the eleventh grade Tahoma High School students were stated by a spokesperson for the district to have brought the flags to school to make an anti-gay statement.
The district spokesperson is reported as stating to KIRO 7 that the boys chose to wear the shirts in response to another student who had previosly displayed a gay pride flag at school.
Tiki Scroggins, whose nephew attends the school, is quoted in the report as stating of the suspensions, “I can see where we wouldn’t OK that — there’s too many ethnic backgrounds that that could offend.”
The students were suspended for dress code violations and causing a disruption.
