Indiana – An Indiana man who suffered a severe spinal injury as a result of a hunting accident chose to end his life support after being brought out of sedation and told of his condition. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the family of Tim Bowers made the request of doctors at Fort Wayne’s Lutheran Hospital that he be allowed to make the choice of whether he wanted to remain on life support. His sister, Jenny Shultz, is quoted by the AP as stating of her brother, “We just asked him, ‘Do you want this?’ And he shook his head emphatically no.”
Bowers, 32, had fallen 16 feet from a tree on Saturday while deer hunting. He was paralyzed from the shoulders down.
Doctors also asked Bowers to get confirmation of his decision. He was taken off life support on Sunday.
