North Carolina – Former U.S. Senator John Edwards has announced the launch of a new law firm with his eldest daughter Cate. As reported by Reuters, Edwards, who has maintained a low profile since the controversy surrounding his extramarital affair and campaign finance fraud charges filed against him, made the announcement on Tuesday.

The opening of the plaintiffs law firm will mark the return of Edwards to his pre-politics career as an attorney. Edwards is quoted by Reuters as stating, “It is a privilege to practice again, and we want to take on cases that, through litigation, change social inequalities in favor of the greater good.”

Edwards was acquitted on the charge of accepting illegal political contributions last year by a federal jury. He was able to retain his law license after the acquittal and a deadlocked jury on five additional campaign finance charges.

According to a statement by the firm, it will represent plaintiffs in the areas of civil rights, discrimination, public safety and product safety, consumer protection, healthcare and medical liability.
