New York – A U.S. appeals court has upheld a judgment against a man who refused to provide testimony to a grand jury over a Times Square bomb explosion that occurred in 2008. As reported by Reuters, self-described anarchist Gerald Koch, 24, was jailed in May after refusing to testify before the grand jury, which was purportedly investigating the incident, citing his First Amendment rights.
The court determined that the government, “has made a convincing showing of its need to ask the questions at issue” regarding the grand jury’s investigation of the crime.
No injuries were reportedly sustained as a result of the explosion; however, a U.S. armed forces recruiting station was damaged.
