North Carolina – North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory recently pardoned a man who was wrongly convicted of murder and spent 17 years in prison. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the decision of McCrory makes 63-year-old LaMonte Armstrong eligible for a compensation claim of up to $750,000, which is availble for individuals who have been wrongly convicted of a felony.

As noted in the report, Armstrong’s murder conviction stemmed from the killing of one of his former North Carolina A&T State University professors in 1988. A witness for the prosecution asserted that he was pressured by police to accuse Armstrong in the case. A palm print from the murder scene was retested and found to belong to another suspect, who is now deceased.

Armstrong’s conviction was vacated by a judge 16 months ago and charges against him were dropped in March.
