Massachusetts – The corruption trial of Trenton, New Jersey Mayor Tony Mack was set to begin Thursday. As reported by Reuters, Mack and his brother, Ralphiel Mack, have both been accused of bribery and extortion following a sting operation that involved the development of a parking garage.
Both have pleaded not guilty to federal charges stemming from their alleged involvement in the 2010 plot. Prosecutors allege that approximately $54,000 of a $119,000 bribe offered by an informant in a scheme to secure help from the mayor for parking garage development on land owned by the city had been paid.
Court documents indicate that 40 potential witnesses could testify against the brothers during the course of the trial. Two other people have pleaded guilty in connection with the plot.
