New York – A New York judge has authorized attorneys for Kanye West to research the identity of the makers of “Coinye West” digital currency. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres granted permission to the attorneys on Thursday, allowing them to learn who will face a lawsuit alleging that the currency was created to make money off of the rapper’s fame.
The judge said that West was likely to win the lawsuit and that attorneys for West had been told that the operators of the “Coinye West” website stated their intentions to remain anonymous.
The lawsuit was filed last week in a federal court in Manhattan and is seeking unspecified damages. As noted in the report, one of the websites targeted by the suit is quoted as putting up a message following the filing saying, “COINYE IS DEAD. You win, Kanye.”
