Los Angeles – Eight Los Angeles police officers were determined to have violated department policy in a shooting involving two women mistaken for a former cop who was wanted in a manhunt. As reported by Reuters, officials stated Tuesday that the officers were found to have violated the Los Angeles Police Department’s use of force policy in opening fire on the women.
One of the women was shot twice in the back. Her adult daughter sustained injuries from flying debris. They were awarded $4.2 million in a settlement from the city.
Police Chief Charlie Beck is quoted in the report as stating of the matter to reporters, “While I certainly empathize and understand the conditions and circumstances that led to this particular officer-involved shooting, I hold our police officers to the highest standards in the application of deadly force.”
How the officers will be disciplined was not disclosed.
