Los Angeles – “Octomom” Nadya Suleman pleaded not guilty to the charge of welfare fraud during a brief hearing on Tuesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Suleman agreed to make a return to court in the event that her case is not resolved prior to April 16.
Arthur J. LaCilento, Suleman’s lawyer, is quoted by the AP as stating of the case, “We’re doing discovery, we’re investigating the case and then we’ll be back to talk to the district attorney to see if this can be resolved.”
If convicted of the charge, Suleman could receive up to six years and four months jail time. Prosecutors allege she owes the state approximately $26,000 in restitution.
Suleman was dubbed ‘Octomom’ after giving birth to octuplets in 2009. She conceived them through in-vitro fertilization.
