Arkansas – A mother was arrested after being accused of breastfeeding her baby while drinking at a restaurant. As reported by ABC News, the 28-year-old stay-at-home mother of three, Tasha Adams, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child following the incident.

Jackie Conners, a waitress at Gusano’s Restaurant in Conway was off-duty at the time, but called the police after spotting Adams breastfeeding while alcohol was on the table. Conners who was fired the same week, is quoted in the report as stating, “There were several drinks in front of her, about … two or three drinks in front of her already, when I got there…I watched the bartender make them, looked like Long Islands. But regardless if it was that or not, then it was strong liquor that was in those glasses.”

Adams says she had two beers and insists she was not intoxicated while breastfeeding her child. Although Arkansas law makes no mention of breastfeeding while drinking, police arrested Adams for endangering the welfare of a child. Adams is quoted as stating of her arrest, “And they said, ‘Ma’am, we’ve got a report that you were drinking alcohol while breastfeeding…I said, ‘OK, I didn’t know that was illegal.”

Conners is further quoted as stating of reporting the incident, “If I was ever in that situation again, I would still do the same thing, because that baby can’t speak up for itself…No one else was doing anything. Even if I knew my job was on the line and it was right around the holidays, I would still do it again.”
