Massachusetts – A Leominister man accused of striking a teenage bicyclist with his car and fleeing the scene pleaded not guilty to related charges on Monday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Daniel Brand, 34, was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, witness intimidation, and other counts after allegedly striking 16-year-old Joshua Carillo, and subsequently driving away with Carillo’s bike still stuck in his undercarriage.
Brand is also accused threatening a woman who witnessed him throwing the bike away, and not having a valid driver’s license.
Both of Carillo’s legs were broken in the incident. Brand’s attorney, Ellen O’Connor, is quoted by the AP as stating of her client, “I have spoken to him and his wife. They both maintain he is not the perpetrator.”
Brand is scheduled to make another appearance in court on June 11.
