New York – President Barack Obama dedicated the 9/11 museum in New York on Thursday calling it “a sacred place of healing and hope.” As reported by The Associated Press (AP), the president viewed exhibits prior to the ceremony, which was also attended by First Lady Michelle Obama, former president Bill Clinton, former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, and other dignitaries.
The museum commemorates the 2001 terrorist attack and also the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993.
Obama is quoted by the AP as stating to an audience during the ceremony, “It’s an honour to join in your memories, to recall and to reflect, but above all to reaffirm the true spirit of 9/11 — love, compassion, sacrifice — and to enshrine it forever in the heart of our nation.”
“Like the great wall and bedrock that embrace us today, nothing can ever break us. Nothing can change who we are as Americans,” Obama further stated.
The museum is set to be open to the public on May 21.
