Virginia – Police say a Virginia man shot and killed his wife and children before turning the gun on himself on Father’s Day. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the man Barry C. Jernigan, 35, killed his wife Renotta; his 9-year-old stepdaughter, Alexis F. Kellas; and 2-year-old son, Seth, late Sunday.
Officers found the bodies of the family members who had died at the scene at their home after 10 p.m. The infant was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.
Next-door neighbor Cindy Nguyen, 29, is quoted by the AP as stating of the deaths, “It saddens me to think, Father’s Day, of all days; (you) go home and shoot your kids, really?”
Nguyen’s husband and brother-in-law attempted to help 30-year-old Renotta Jernigan after she came out of the home and collapsed on the lawn.
Police were still investigating the shooting deaths on Monday.
