Washington – A lawsuit has been brought against credit reporting agency, Experian by the state of Mississippi. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the complaint alleges that errors have been made by the agency that are included the credit files millions of Americans.
The data errors, as stated in Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood’s complaint, hinder the ability of many people to pass background checks or obtain loans. The suit claims that Experian Information Solutions knowingly included the information in the files of consumers.
Hood is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue, “Experian has turned its failures to maintain accurate credit reports and its refusal to investigate consumer disputes into a business opportunity.”
Experian is reportedly the largest among the multiple credit reporting companies in the world, and took in $4.8 billion in revenues last year.
Ohio and 31 other states are also in the process of investigating issues such as possible consumer protection law violations and paperwork error complaints within the industry.
