Los Angeles – Whole Foods will reportedly pay $800,000 in penalties and fees following an investigation into allegations that customers in California had been overcharged by the retailer. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), state and local inspectors found that prepared foods were sold by the item as opposed to per pound, which is in violation of the law among other things, prosecutors asserted.

The company is accused of having violated consumer protection laws in its pricing of certain items. In accordance with an agreement, Whole Foods will be required to appoint state- and store-level pricing accuracy managers, and it’s California stores will be subjected to audits in addition to the payout.

Whole Foods, which is headquartered in Austin, TX, released a statement vowing to make improvements to its internal procedures.
