New York – The father of a woman accused of abandoning her baby on a subway platform in New York City says his daughter had witnessed her boyfriend being killed months prior, attributing the incident to her behavior. As reported by ABC News, the father of Frankea Dabbs, 20, says she had been behaving erratically since seeing the boyfriend shot to death as she hid in a closet.
Franklin Dabbs is quoted as stating of his daughter, “She saw her boyfriend get killed… Three guys came to the house. She was hiding under the bed. She was two months pregnant then. I think that burden was still with her.”
Frankea Dabbs was arrested on Tuesday after leaving her 10 month-old daughter on the subway station and then leaving on Monday. Stephen Davis, a spokesman for the New York Police Department, is quoted as stating of the incident, “She felt she couldn’t take care of the baby and thought she was leaving her in a safe public space.”
The baby was taken to the hospital for a check up and was stated to be in stable condition. She is now in the custody of Administration for Children’s Services.
Dabbs has been charged with abandoning a child and committing actions injurious to a child less than the age of 17.
