Minnesota – Former professional wrestler, who also previously served as Governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura, has been awarded $1.8 million in a defamation lawsuit. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a federal jury awarded Ventura damages in his case against a military sniper who claimed that he made negative comments about the Navy SEALs leading to an altercation with him at a bar.
Best selling author, Chris Kyle, who died last year, made the assertions in his memoir “American Sniper.” Kyle said he punched Ventura after he purportedly made the comment that the SEALs “deserved to lose a few” in Iraq.
As noted in the report, Ventura maintained his case was meant to clear his name regarding the disparaging remark as opposed to the allegation that he had lost the fight.
David Bradley Olson, Ventura’s attorney, is quoted by the AP as stating of his client, and the outcome of the case, “He’s certainly grateful for the verdict, but his reputation with an entire generation of young SEALs may never be repaired…It is a victory in the sense that the jury did tell the world that Chris Kyle’s story is a lie and was a fabrication.”
