Missouri – Police say that Michael Brown, the unarmed teen who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, was a suspect in a convenience store robbery. As reported by CBS News, the police released documents on Friday purporting that Brown was suspected in the theft of a $48.99 box of cigars.
According to Police Chief Thomas Jackson, Darren Wilson, the officer who fired the shots that killed Brown, had not been made aware of Brown being a suspect when he stopped the teen and another person while they were walking.
Jackson is quoted as stating that the two were stopped “because they were walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic.”
The Justice Department stated on Friday that several witnesses have been interviewed as part of a federal investigation.
The department is quoted as saying in a statement, “Over the next several days, teams of FBI agents will be canvassing the neighborhood where the shooting took place to identify any individuals who may have information related to the shooting and have not yet come forward… We ask for the public’s cooperation and patience, and again urge anyone with information related to the shooting to contact the FBI.”
