Washington – A petition seeking the enforcement of a rule that camera devices must be worn by all police officers has made its way to the White House. As reported by WebProNews, a “Mike Brown Law” has been proposed in a petition created on the White House’s We The People petition site online.

The petition has garnered more than 135,000 signatures. In order to generate an official response from the White House, 100,000 signatures are required.

The petition is quoted as stating, “Due to the latest accounts of deadly encounters with police, We the People, petition for the Mike Brown Law. Create a bill, sign into law, and set aside funds to require all state, county, and local police, to wear a camera. The law shall be made in an effort to not only detour police misconduct (i.e. brutality, profiling, abuse of power), but to ensure that all police are following procedure, and to remove all question, from normally questionable police encounters.”

As noted in the report, those who support the use of officer cams assert that such devices help the police protect themselves from false accusations regarding encounters with citizens as well as deter actual police brutality.
