It is often said that it is better to give than to receive during the holiday season, but the Mazda Drive for Good event at Massachusetts dealership Mastria Mazda is allowing car buyers to do both at the same time. From now through Jan. 2, purchasers and lessees of a new vehicle at Mastria Mazda can allocate a $150 donation from Mazda to their choice of five worthy charities, and furthermore, each test-drive will result in one hour of charitable service from a Mazda employee or business partner.
In addition to a list of national charities that includes the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Mazda Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, buyers at Mastria Mazda can choose to support the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism based locally in Framingham, Mass. Founded by former Boston College football star Doug Flutie Sr. and his wife Laurie after their son was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, the Flutie Foundation provides less fortunate families with educational and recreational opportunities, special equipment and tools for their autistic children.
“Regardless of the charity they decide to support, car buyers can feel confident that they’re making a real difference for people in need as they find their perfect Mazda vehicle this holiday season,” said Barry Chew, general sales manager of Mastria Mazda. “Even if our customers aren’t quite ready to make a purchase, a simple test-drive will ensure that someone will be dedicating an hour to charitable service in an age where we all seem to have so little time.”
On the national level, Mazda is going to great lengths to promote its second annual Drive for Good event. The automaker teamed with NBC Universal and actress Minnie Driver to encourage the public to share stories of how they would improve their communities, and Mazda will bring one entrant’s charitable project to life after a winner is announced at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 3. Meanwhile, Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is currently being featured in a 30-second TV spot for the Drive for Good campaign, and a two-minute video is playing in cinemas to highlight Mazda’s charitable efforts in recent years.
