During its nearly 13 years in the United States, two significant factors have been constants for the MINI auto brand: classic styling and a highly responsive ride. That kind of certainty bodes well for the future value of vehicles, recently helping the 2015 MINI Hardtop and MINI Countryman earn 2015 ALG Residual Value Awards in the Premium Compact Car and Subcompact Utility Vehicle segments, respectively.
ALG presents its Residual Value Awards in 26 segments to honor the new vehicles that are predicted to retain the highest percentage of their MSRPs after three years based on factors like durability, quality and brand desirability. In the Premium Compact Car segment, the MINI Hardtop bested vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the Audi A3, while the MINI Countryman topped models like the Scion xB and Kia Soul in the Subcompact Utility Vehicle segment.
“MINI’s unmistakable styling and go-kart-like handling won’t be falling out of favor anytime soon, and the Hardtop and Countryman models are particularly well positioned to retain their value because they’re always in high demand as the brand’s two best-selling vehicles,” said Gary King, general manager of MINI of Peabody, a Greater Boston MINI dealership. “In recent years, MINI has also made huge strides in active-safety technology and in-car connectivity, which are two relatively new purchasing factors that are rapidly growing in importance.”
MINI hopes it has another ALG Residual Value Award winner on its hands with the all-new MINI Hardtop 4 door going on sale in January. Featuring all the advanced technology of the recently redesigned Hardtop 2 door while following the Countryman’s playbook with its extra doors, the MINI Hardtop 4 door boasts nearly three more inches in its wheelbase and an extra 6.3 inches in body length compared to its two-door brethren. Those changes will afford rear passengers an additional 1.8 inches of interior width at shoulder level and an extra half-inch of headroom, while also expanding luggage space by half a cubic foot in the back.
