Alabama – A bill aimed at banning discrimination against state employees in Alabama based on their sexual orientation is being named after Apple CEO Tim Cook. As reported by Reuters, the bill is being sponsored by Democratic state Representative Patricia Todd, who is the only openly gay lawmaker in Alabama.
Cook made headlines after publicly stating he was gay earlier this year. Todd is quoted as stating of Cook’s disclosure, which occurred after his acceptance of an Alabama Academy of Honor “Nobody could have scripted this… I never in a million years would have expected it.”
Todd has said she plans to introduce the legislation in March at the beginning of the Alabama legislative session. The state representative has expressed hopes that Cook will meet with the legislature and speak on behalf of the bill.
