U.S. – Apple has released numbers for its App Store earnings outlining the milestones that have been reached. As reported by WebProNews, the numbers show that during the first week of January of this year alone, approximately half a billion dollars was spent by consumers on app and in app purchases.
App sales were stated to have been the highest ever in history on New Year’s Day. The company also states that apps generated more than $10 billion for developers last year, with $25 billion in sales for apps and games being made overall to date.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, is quoted as stating of the milestones, “This year is off to a tremendous start after a record-breaking year for the App Store and our developer community…We’re so proud of the creativity and innovation developers bring to the apps they create for iOS users and that the developer community has now earned over $25 billion.”
