02/24/2015 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // Baltimore, Maryland // Russel Volkswagen

Fresh on the heels of its 2015 North American Car of the Year win at the Detroit Auto Show in January, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf has been named the Best New Compact Car of 2015 in the Cars.com Best of 2015 awards. Editors of the auto-research site determined the best newly introduced or redesigned cars in six segments after evaluating each model for innovations, quality and most of all, value.

Citing a high-quality interior featuring soft-touch materials that can be had for $2,000 less than the previous generation of the Golf, Cars.com editors praised the 2015 model for offering a premium feel at a low price point. Impressive fuel efficiency further enhances that value, with the standard gas-powered Golf returning up to 37 mpg on the highway while an optional 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel four-cylinder engine enables fuel-economy ratings of up to 45 mpg on the highway. Though the 2015 Golf maintains its urban maneuverability with its compact body, Cars.com noted the car’s spacious interior, which provides 22.8 cubic feet of cargo room through its rear hatch.

“The new Golf has dropped in weight yet expanded in space, and Volkswagen has lowered its price while boosting the list of premium features,” said Malcolm Reid, general manager of Russel Volkswagen, a Volkswagen dealer in Baltimore. “That means that Golf buyers are truly getting more for less, and they won’t find another compact car that punches so far above its price class.”

While the 2015 Golf continues to garner critical acclaim, including a stay on Car and Driver’s 2015 10Best Cars list since last November, the redesigned hatchback is proving popular with actual car buyers as well. Volkswagen sold 4,199 new Golf models in the United States last month, a huge 145 percent increase over January 2014. The sales breakdown for the Golf family in January included 2,040 units of the regular Golf, 1,978 units of the Golf GTI and 181 units of the e-Golf.
